Our new article on our study of Microglial Cytokines Mediate Plasticity Induced by 10 Hz Repetitive Magnetic Stimulation has appeared in the Journal of Neuroscience. In the study, we investigated the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), on microglia-mediated synaptic plasticity. We found that rTMS triggers release of plasticity-promoting cytokines from microglia that affect neuronal excitability and plasticity. The study provides insight into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of rTMS and identifies microglia-mediated synaptic adaptation as a target for rTMS-based interventions.
